A Fantastic Lunch at the Kingham Plough

A Fantastic Lunch at the Kingham Plough 1

Warm and Welcoming

On Wednesday we had the pleasure of a leisurely lunch at the Kingham Plough. We have been before having lived in Kingham when it was under the management of Emily Watkins, so our expections were high and curious to find out how the new owners were going to live up to her well founded reputation. We need not have worried, we were in for a treat, the staff were immediately warm and welcoming and we were greeted by the new owner Matt who promptly welcomed us with a much needed welcome drink at the bar.

Once shown to our table we were  immediately greeted with warmth by our waitress Tamsin who was on hand throughout our visit.

A Foodies Dream

After choosing a lovely bottle of red to share and warm the cockles on what was one of the first chilly days of the year, we perused the menu and found we were so spoilt for choice with the delightful new menu that clearly continues the Ploughs legacy of championing the very best fresh, local, seasonal ingredients.

For starter we kept it simple – and we were delighted we had when these arrived, the ‘Salt Pig’ Charcuterie Board, Olives, Pickled Chilli, Sourdough was just superb and beautifully presented, traditional and tasty this was everything it should be, we accompanied this with a pint of prawns – fresh and sweet, the perfect start to what was to be the perfect lunch.

The starter would be a hard act to follow, needless to say were not disappointed, whilst my husband went for the pan fried calves liver, I settled on the Creedy Carver Duck, Damson Jam, Chestnut Mushrooms, Cavolo Nero – now I know this is a big statement, but this was simply put one of the best meals I have ever tasted, cooked to perfection with superb flavours, this was pure heaven on a plate.

This is high class dining with the added bonus of a contemporary feel set in a beautiful 17th Century Cotswold Pub – what more can you ask for?

The dessert menu was luscious, however, we were going to struggle with one each so we settled on sharing deconstructed black forest cake – wow – just wow!

All in all the entire meal and experienced lived up to our high expectations on every level. We will most definitely be returning and recommending this to all – we wish Katie and Matt all the best in their new venture and I have no doubt based on our experience this will be an absolute foodie destination for the Cotswolds.
