The Highway Inn
Situated in Burford, Gateway to the Cotswolds, the Highway is steeped in history and offers the warm welcome of a traditional English pub with today’s comfortable modern touches.
This 15th century coaching Inn is run by a team who are passionate about good food and good service and it is open every day for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Drinks.
On offer is a high-quality menu of seasonal and locally-sourced produce in an intimate setting, accompanied with fine wines and local ales, be that in the dining room, cellar or main bar with its beamed ceilings original stone fireplace. A sunny outdoor terrace and a secluded medieval l courtyard with log fire provide social outdoor spaces for dining and drinks
High quality food always includes a pie of the day, fresh fish and chips and some excellent steaks. As well as these traditional pub classics we also offer more refined options across our changing menu dependent on the season. Suppliers are locally-sourced wherever possible and include Kelmscott Country Pork, Mayfield Eggs, Cotswold Cheese Company and Aubrey Allen beef.
Should you wish to stay, the bedrooms are individually decorated in a modern English country house style with a mixture of designer fabrics and traditional wallpapers.
The Highway offers a home away from home for the young, old, little people and their four-legged friends. No matter how long you stay, you will be made most welcome.
Check in & Departure
Check in is from 3pm on the day of your arrival and checkout is 11am on the day of departure. We are more than happy to store your bags for you. If you would like a late checkout, please request this when booking or checking in and we will do our best to accommodate.
Dogs are welcome to stay at the hotel, and are permitted in our Shilton and Fullbrook rooms and welcome in the Main bar, Back bar and Courtyard areas. A surcharge of £10 per dog per stay will be applied to your account. You are kindly requested to clear up after your dog.

Windrush – Comfortable Double
Windrush is a cosy double with an en-suite bath/shower. This room is on the first floor overlooking the High Street
Fulbrook – Cosy Double
Our Fulbrook room has a brand-new makeover and is a comfortable double with en-suite bath/shower. This room is on the first floor overlooking the High Street.
Taynton – Good Double
Taynton is a good sized double with private bathroom shower on the second floor overlooking the High Street. This room has it’s own private landing and has low beams on the staircase up to the second floor so less suitable for taller people.This room can accommodate a dog.
Swinbrook – Double
Swinbrook is a good sized double with en-suite shower. This room is on the second floor overlooking the High Street and has loads of character with beams and sloping floors.
Widford: Four Poster
Widford is our newly refurbished Four Poster room with a four poster bed overlooking the Courtyard, with additional extras including a Nespresso Machine and mini fridge
Filkins – Double/Family
Filkins is a large double/family room with a double and a single bed and en-suite bath/shower. This room is on the first floor towards the back of the hotel.This room can accommodate a dog.
Upton – Twin/Double
Upton is a large twin/double room with en-suite bath/shower. This room is full of character with dark beams and is on the second floor overlooking the High Street..
Burford – Premium Four Poster
Our Premium Four Poster room has been newly refurbished with a Super King four poster bed overlooking the high street with additional extras including a nespresso machine and mini fridge.
Shilton: Double / Private Bathroom
This room is a cosy double on the first floor with private bathroom bath/shower room. This room overlooks our back courtyard. This room has exclusive use of an adjacent bathroom but is not en-suite.This room can accommodate a dog.
Asthall – Cosy Double
Asthall is a cosy double with ensuite shower room overlooking the Medieval Courtyard at the back.
Burford’s is famous for its gorgeous High Street that sweeps downhill towards the River Windrush, featuring its three arched medieval bridge and its impressive church, both sides of the street lined with beautiful ancient houses and shops.
Burford is very popular with visitors for its history, beauty and shopping, especially antiques, and has an abundance of places to eat, including restaurants, pubs and teashops.
